PIEDMONT PARENT MAGAZINE CONTEST

1st Annual Children’s Book Writing Contest 2005: open to all children entering grades K-8 in the fall of 2005. Children of Carolina Parenting, Inc., Greensboro Children’s Museum, Children’s Museum of W-S, Barnes & Noble employees and their relatives not eligible. Submissions will be entered and judged in categories as follows: K-1, 2-3, 4-5, 6-8.

To enter write and illustrate an original children’s storybook (for readers ages 4 to 8) not more than 20 pages in length. All writing and illustrations must be done by hand, no computer generated or media enhanced submissions will be accepted. Only one book per entrant. Finished books should be bound (stapled, stitched, clipped or inserted into a folder). Please include a legible title page, typed or neatly written, with the following info:

An author’s reception will take place on Jan. 22, 2006 from 1 to 5 pm at the Children’s Museum of Winston Salem and will include a special reading and reception for participants and their families. All eligible children who enter a book will receive a certificate of participation, and can pick up their entry at the reception. First, second, and third prizes will be awarded in each age category. All winners and participants will be recognized in a special section of the January or February issues of Piedmont Parent.

The Women Playwright’s Initiative wants to produce a full-length play written by a woman playwright living in a southern state.
