"Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy. Music is the electrical soil in which the spirit lives, thinks and invents."

- Ludwig van Beethoven

The Nashville Songwriters Association International Greensboro Chapter is composed of songwriters, composers and artists, lyricists and musicians covering all genres of songwriting: country, rock, western, R & B, jazz, new age, classical, spiritual, blues, hip-hop, romantic, radio jingles, children's songs -- even Broadway-style musicals -- you name it, this only scratches the surface. Free and open to all songwriters within driving distance of Greensboro. Bring a song on tape or CD or play it live, even if it is a work in progress, along with 12 copies of the lyrics for the evaluation and brainstorming session.

Demetra 'Tita' Bakas, a former vice-president of WGOT and a member of the WGOT Children's Writers group, loves the power of lyrics and melody to create new worlds of imagination. As a singer, songwriter and author, she invites children to experience the adventure of the natural world, and the fun of other cultures. She is author of the book, "Black Eyed Susan", published by Creation of Celebration, and has recorded a musical audiotape of one of her songs, "Peace for my Family," to accompany the book. Her latest CD, "Animal Totem Songs," marketed toward upper 4- to 11-year-olds, was performed by "Tita and the Traveling Totems" (instrumentation and vocals include co-writers Brad Reaves and John Paul McNeil). To order e-mail TravelingTotems@aol.com.

Workshop topics may include creative writing exercises, rules and techniques of songwriting and musical composition, how to professionally pitch your songs, and the business of music publishing.

If you have questions or would like to attend a meeting or join the group, call Tita Bakas (288-6354) for further information.
